Margret Hoppe & Julien Lescoeur
September 21 – December 7, 2018
This exhibition takes place within the program of the Monat der Fotografie OFF Berlin
The exhibition, curated by Marc Barbey, stages the work of two young but already confirmed photographers, one german and one French that have both studied in Germany as well as in France. The new cycle of Margret Hoppe “Underexposed Modernism”, that has been created in 2017, will be presented with architectural views of forgotten buildings from Thilo Schoder and Hans Scharoun in Thuringia and Saxony. Two cycles from Julien Lescoeur that were both realized in Berlin will be shown: “Aérolithiques” and “Velvet Doom”.
The two photographers have a complementary vision on the way they photograph architectures and as they focus largely on structures, materiality and surfaces in their work, words that all relate to textures. The exhibition carries a title that encompasses those two terms.
Margret Hoppe focuses on a classical architectural photography approach with her personal style encompassing the structures of the buildings as well as the spirit and the atmosphere of the premises in a very graphical and intimate way.
Julien Lescoeur focuses on details of the structures and textures of the buildings. He encapsulates and creates architectural works loaded with untold stories, the fullness and the void of human existence. He is inspired by the cube of Giacometti, the films of David Lynch and Stanley Kubrick, the music of Joy Division as well as the painters Giorgio Morandi and Ad Reinhardt.
From September 21 to December 7, 2018, you can visit the exhibition every Friday between 2pm and 6pm (except on holidays) or by appointment.

15.10 FRENCH Film screening "From one shore to the other, "LesAssociés"
A film screening in french as part of a Salon Photographique will be held. The collective LesAssociés presents their eighth « photographic film" in the series voyages immobiles: "From one shore to the other". At the crossroads of still and moving images, sound and editing, this format offers the advantage of a flexible narration in which image and sound take turns and reinforce each other. This photographic film, produced in 2018 with the participation of the city of Bordeaux, Talence city and Mérignac city, combines, in its symbolic and literal concept, seven photographic narratives from Europe and its borders which all address the notion of exile as well as the quest for individual, real and fantasized freedom.
The screening will be followed by an exchange in French between the authors and the public. Wines and typical French dishes will accompany this evening.
October 15th, Length of the film: 1 hour, in French, Participation fee: 5€. The doors open at 7pm and the projection starts at 7:30pm. Reservation: email@example.com

The short movie The Dessau Bauhaus by Frédéric Compain shows Walter Gropius’ main achievement - the buildings of the Bauhaus – and with it the most innovative art school of the 20th century, which Gropius himself established. In The Convent of La Tourette by Richard Copans Le Corbusier shows how he reinvents religious architecture. In The Jewish Museum Berlin by Richard Copans and Stan Neumann, Daniel Libeskind tackles the emptiness left by the extermination of Europe’s Jews and shows how to build around an absence.
