Along the wall
September 13 - December 6, 2019
Vernissage September 12, 6 to 9 pm
Curation: Marc Barbey
On the occasion of the 30th year of the fall of the Berlin wall, we would like to showcase the works of the French photographer Patrick Tourneboeuf, co-founder of the French collective Tendance Floue. Patrick Tourneboeuf has been working on “Along the wall” since 1989. In the span of 30 years, he documented not only the fall of the wall as a single event, but also the processes of change and disappearance of it’s structure and it’s surroundings.
At first clearly recognizable, the scars disappears gradually over time. In 2019 Patrick Tourneboeuf together with the historian and cartographer Laurent Gontier undertook to walk along the complete 50 km of the former Berlin wall. The photographic results show a unique view on the present with distinct archaeological traits.
The exhibition will show the three phases (1988/90, 2003 and 2019) in three separate rooms. In this sense, the three phases can be experienced as three stages of the historic process of fading. The hybrid of photography and cartography allow the viewers to place themselves into the shown situation. The feeling of geographic orientation and the comparison of historical and contemporary maps are visualized by the works.
The body of work comes in the form of a leporello which includes 26 photographs and a film made of 2500 photographs.
The exhibition is on view from the 13th of September to the 6th of December every Friday from 14:00 to 18:00 (not on holidays) or on appointment.
Events: Exhibition tour with Patrick Tourneboeuf, Laurent Gontier and Marc Barbey, Friday the 13th of September at 17:00.
